Sun shines on ACE golf final

A tight finish rounded off the final of the inaugural ACE Centre Junior Golf Challenge at Frilford Heath Golf Club on Saturday 26 September.

The winning junior pairs from 13 Oxfordshire clubs teed off on a bright and sunny morning to compete on Frilford's challenging Blue Course. Jordan Garnish and Charlie Blewitt from The Oxfordshire Golf Club just pipped their nearest rivals, Freddie Frithz and Ed Preece from Rye Hill Golf Club to the post on countback scores, both pairs having scored 40 points. Close behind in third place was Harry Collins and Chris Little from Frilford Heath, who scored 39.

Lena Curtis, ACE Centre Fundraising Manager, said, "I never realised golf could be so exciting. I was on the edge of my seat watching the scores come in."

The trophy for best front nine of the day went to Sophie Stone and Alistair Haynes from Studley Wood, with Charles Powell and Robbie Nicholson from North Oxford winning best back nine. The Oxfordshire juniors were once again victorious with Jordan Garnish securing the trophy for nearest the pin and his team mate Charlie Blewitt winning the longest drive. The prize of a golf day at The Manor Golf Course in Castle Coombe went to Matt Alexander from Rye Hill who raised an amazing £155.00 sponsorship. To date the event has raised over £1,000 for the ACE Centre.

Our thanks go to Chris Allen and Frilford Heath Golf Club for their valuable assistance with the competition.
