Giving a voice to children who struggle to communicate.

Disability awareness in focus

The ACE Centre has started a scheme to train sixth formers in Oxfordshire to become advocates for children with disabilities in their schools.

These ‘ACE Centre Disability Champions’ will have training delivered by Toby Hewson, a young man who himself has a disability and owns his own company, Just Different (www.justdifferent.org.uk), which runs disability workshops in schools all over the country. The training aims to open the students’ eyes to the challenges and experiences faced by young people with disabilities in mainstream schools. The project, which has been funded by local radio station Fox FM, will run until the end of June, but the ACE Centre hopes to develop the project in order to offer it to more schools around the county.
