Giving a voice to children who struggle to communicate.

AEGIS Project first Prototypes

AEGIS Project User Centred Design Process

Following the survey of user needs carried out last year, the ACE Centre’s next task for the AEGIS project is about to begin.  Some of the products of the project are now in their first prototype stage, some are even near completion and we would like users to try them out and tell us what they think.

We will be organising individual visits and workshops over the next few weeks and would like to know if you would like to  take part and which products you would like to look at. The following prototypes will be tested.

1. A screen magnifier
2. DAISY talking book production from Open Office
3. Speech synthesis (Text to Speech) recorded samples for quality and usability
4. Symbol supported writing in Open Office
5. Real time messaging over the Internet (like TXT messaging but instant)
6. An accessible mobile phone address book
7. Screen reader (Oratio) to enable speaking mobile phones (Blackberry)

The project will provide all the software and hardware for the work and cover out-of-pocket expenses and travel (if required).  I will be contacting people individually about this, but I would be pleased if you would let me know of your interests in taking part in these trials and when you will be free to do so.
