At the end of September, NCHA hosted a conference in Nottingham in association with EASPD (European Association of Service Providers for Persons with Disabilities). The conference programme brought together key people from across Europe to demonstrate how assistive technology can significantly support independence for people with disabilities in a person centred way..
Approximately 100 people attended from 13 countries from across the UK and the rest of Europe, and had the opportunity to learn about experiences in other countries through a range of presentations and workshop discussions. The event was well received by delegates, speakers and workshop leaders.
" Thought provoking, addressing the current conflicts of promoting independence and managing risk ...time well spent"
"good supporting information from experts in the field to encourage reflection on the way forward"
"raised personal + professional awareness ... will impact on future developments within my role and how I approach supporting individuals"
"an opportunity to meet like
minded colleagues"
"interesting variety of topics"
"stimulating and worthwhile"
"informative and enjoyable"
"inspiring"
The feedback also gave us food for thought for future events, such as:
· More networking opportunities
· More opportunity for discussion and questions
· More exhibitions
· Updates on new technology / technology used in other countries
· More real examples of breaking barriers
