Giving a voice to children who struggle to communicate.

Introducing Accessibility Passports

The ‘Accessibility Passport’ is a new tool that will enable software and other electronic media developers communicate the accessibility of their products to people with disabilities.  It has been difficult to characterise the accessibility of software and we hope that this project will provide a path to ‘kite marking’ accessibility. Accessibility Passports will also give public institutions better information for complying with the Disability Discrimination Act Part IV (SENDA).

We are currently looking for individuals and organisations to comment on the pilot study.

In cooperation with the ACE Centre and Techdis, Becta is creating a passport generator to aid the process. A comprehensive guidance document on how the passport will work and how to use the ‘generator’ will also be available.

At a later stage, once the pilot passports have been created, we need organisations and experts with experience in the field of disability and accessibility to comment on the proposed final system in light of the pilot study.  We also need the pilot passports and associated software to be examined for the effectiveness of the information given.

Would you please contact me if you or anyone else you know are interested in contributing to this exciting new development?
